I loved this. I learned a lot and even if I am not adept at this I know more now of what to look for when people refer to a paper and can make a much better evaluation. And I think now I might even try to look at one myself and use this information.

This was my first course with Midwoofery. Being new I was not sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised, I found it easy to follow, covered everything and very helpful in understanding science papers. I'm sure I will be coming back to this many times.

About this course

This is an important course if you want information independence.

There’s so much information out there—and so much MISinformation. Being able to find your own answers in the science is a critical skill for anyone who wants to be a better breeder.

This is a great course for breeders of all levels who want to be a able to find reliable sources and learn how to properly interpret them.

This course is suitable for all experience levels, whether you barely got through high school bio or are currently in a master's program.

I think one of the most important things we can do as breeders is to learn to critically look at scientific information available and determine it’s credibility.

People can either be intimidated by studies or mislead by really bad interpretations or even manipulation of them.

This mini course teaches you how to intelligently approach sources and make up your own mind about the information presented.

  • Why to read scientific studies
  • What exactly is a “scientific study?”
  • How to vet sources for credibility
  • What is peer review and why does it matter?
  • The different types of articles/papers/presentations
  • Different types of studies and study design
  • How to read a study
  • What to do if you don’t understand some of what you are reading
  • What is “cherry picking” and why to look out for it
  • What is a conflict of interest and how can it impact science
  • Examples of how some studies are misinterpreted by the media or those with a conflict of interest and how to evaluate that for yourself.

My ultimate goal is for you to be able to find and understand scientifically sound sources so that you can intelligently investigate and make up your own mind about topics that are science based.
